I went to a local artist’s exhibit last week. One piece that interested me was an assignment he gave his High School students, a 24 Hour Doodle. The exercise is meant to be a visual “free association” drawing taking 24 hours. It will also help with unblocking and opening up your creativity.
Here are the guidelines. I reduced the time to 12 hours, and you can take breaks. But the finished product should take 12 hours to complete. Don’t plan or design the doodle. It can be images, patterns, or a mix of both. I tend to lean toward a lot of patterns, so I need to deliberately add in items I see around me into the doodle.
This is the very beginning of my doodle. So far I only have 1 hour into it. I already know I will full this 11×14 paper well before the time limit, so I’ll just continue onto another page when the time comes. Take the challenge and enjoy the free thoughts!
