Clay Pet Urn

One of my hidden agendas for taking a ceramics class was to create an Urn for my pet ashes (which are currently sitting in plastic bags on my bookshelf).  About a year ago I had hand built one, but unfortunately it blew up during the glaze firing. So I set my sights on learning more about throwing clay vessels and to complete my mission of building a new Urn.

Since in this session we were working on building bigger and taller vessels by stacking smaller pots together, I had the skills I needed to begin my Urn journey.  I already had the design drawn out.  Today I managed to throw two very round pots that will serve as the base of my Urn. After allowing them to set up to almost leather hard separately, I attached one atop of the other. And so it begins with a simple form.  Next steps will be to add the sculptural pieces to build out and shape their faces.
