To start a watercolor painting, first draw the subject on the paper in pencil.
Keep the shapes simple. You don’t need a lot of detail at this point. One of
the things I find most quaint about watercolor is being able to see the artist’s pencil lines
under the transparency of the medium.
Next step is to fill in the large areas with a Watercolor wash. This is a lot of water,
with a little color. We never use white paint in watercolor. Allow the white of the paper to show through.
