Getting down to the final steps in the 2 month process, and here’s where I really need to have FAITH! I know the urn looks like a hot mess in the picture. It’s because there’s a whole lot going on here! The cat was painted with stains, so I could get more details and stripes. He will fire a matte finish. However I wanted the eyes on the cat to be shiny, so there’s clear glaze over the stain. My Westie dog needed to be white and glossy, but not her black eyes and nose, which should be shiny.
Sooo…. cat stained first, eyes clear glazed, then the whole cat painted with a (green) wax resist. Dog’s eyes and nose stained, clear glazed, wax resist those eyes, then dip the entire urn in the white glaze (that is the white beading on the cat head that the wax resists).
Have you been able to keep up so far? Now I put all my trust in the clay gods that the urn will turn out as it was reasonably intended. And that’s the beauty part of pottery, some surprise and a little uncertainty as to the outcome.
