Tapestry Weaving

Let me introduce you to my newest adventure in weaving…this is Penelope!  LeClere brand looms are given names by the manufacturer according to style of loom, my is named Penelope, which I think is very quaint.  Penelope is a tapestry loom.

Though I enjoyed my floor loom weaving, a tapestry seems more my artistic style. With the 4 harness floor loom, by changing the levers (or treadle pedals) the patterns would change. And both the warp threads and the weft threads were visible in the patterns and final product. A tapestry is more image oriented, like “painting” a picture with small fiber brush strokes. And the weaving techniques will cover all the warp threads so only the wefts are seen as the weaver “paints” the picture.

My “Beast Whisperer” friend has never used a tapestry loom either, so our first adventure was to figure out how the warp Penelope properly. Much trial and error later, she is ready to begin with the “footer”. The footer is 1-2 inches of twilling at the bottom to separate the warp threads evenly before weaving with the weft.

We are all set, so let the FUN begin!!
