Once you’ve mastered the basic acrylic painting techniques, hard edge, blending, and overpainting,
it’s time to add more skills to your tool box. Using stencils and masking can add interesting
patterns and textures to a painting. Anything that has holes through it can be used
as a stencil. In my example below I found some old lace pieces. I laid them over a canvas
and with a spray bottle, applied the patterns as the background of my painting. I also
tried creating small shapes, words, and designs with hot glue on parchment paper.
When it cools, peel it off, lay it on a canvas and spray paint over the glue to mask the area.
These are just two more of some interesting effects you can easily create.
