My Pet Urn construction started with two round pots stacked atop one another. I also had to throw a lid for the top, another first time for me. The lid had to be measured to fit perfectly, with a flange on the inside to keep it from ever sliding off.
The next phase was to create the facial features on the pots, one to represent my kitties, and there have been several cat members in my fur family, and the bottom for my little Westie pup. I’ve made great, if not slow, progress designing and attaching slab parts for ears, noses, fur, and including textures. The muzzle on the Westie was a challenge as I wanted it to be alittle 3D, but not overpower the piece. After a few tries, I got the multiple pieces to assemble together to look like her face. I haven’t decided how much detail I want on the back yet, after all, sculptural pieces are meant to be seen from all directions.
After construction is finished and bisque fired, comes the glazing. I could go clean and classic with a black cat and a white Westie. Or, my preference, go abstract and super colorful!! One step at a time, let’s see it make it through a bisque fire first.
